= The Summer of the Explosion.
August 4th - Los Angeles, California
Added moments before leaving, it happened at the Smell in downtown Los Angeles.
Friends Forever played the shit
out of their own version of u2's Where the Streets Have No Name in which they demonstrate what total bullshit
Reagonomics are. Ended at the request of several Unitarians.
August 5th - San Diego, CA - Some bar.
The next day the friends drove down to San Diego, California and played at some bar who's name nobody can remember.
A helpfull socialist guy on the street corner tries to interest the lead guitarist
from friends forever in some manner of a leftist newspaper.
The lead guitarist declined. Friends Forever played out front. They played all these wild anti-gentrification songs.
After the show is the first in a series of sexual orgies that consist of pleasures beyond your wildest
imagination but didn't involve the objectification of women.
August 6th - L.A., CA - Anarchist Community Center with a name that was spanish.
After using the bathroom dozens of times in the course of a just a couple of hours the friends once again took to
the streets with their anti-corporate message of social justice. To this end they sell several CD's.
Lady is
incredulous that the friends will not sell her a T-shirt but it is important that these shirts don't fall into the wrong
hands.
August 7th - Santa Cruz, CA - On the side of some abandoned building.
Played on the side of some industrial building that The Lowdown practice at. The lead guitarist shows his mastery of
lead guitar by playing a lead guitar solo.
A friend gave them a pile of T-shirts to replace the quickly dissappearing stock that they brought
with them from Colorado.
August 8th - San Francisco, CA - Koki's or Kudi's or like that.
A homeless man helped to get a parking spot in front of the club. Recieved
some T-shirts of solidarity from group.
All but three are given away at the conclusion of the show. (Click
here for an artists rendition of the shirts). Someone, perhaps a pro-corporate fascist or a pro-gentrification skin
head or what have you,
tried to disrupt our anarchist action by pouring beer on our electronics. They of course
underestimated the friends who continued to rock in spite of all the odd noises the keyboard was making.
Then someone, possibly the head of a giant corporation,
tried using the San Francisco police department to fine and jail them.
Friends Forever were able to finish their set before the police arrived.
To show solidarity the lead drummer from Friends Forever goes on a bathroom strike refusing to go to the bathroom
until the wealth is redistributed in San Francisco. As of this writing he still has not gone to the bathroom.
-Also-
Felt sorry for everyone who was too close to the smoke bomb. That must have been somewhat unpleasant.
Destroyed -
The Keyboard of Liberty.
1 Fan of Fury
August 10th - Portland, OR - Disjecta
More mayhem. Miscalculating, the lead singer fell into some guy without a shirt while doing the
Cartwheel of Social Justice.
Next the smokescreen of Fascism malfunctions and spits sparks onto the Keyboard of Liberty melting several keys.
The lead guitarist accidently knocks some girl over and she scrapes her elbow. The Friends give her some free gifts.
Sorry lady. After the show the lead singer used pot and became very paranoid.
Destroyed -
Keyboard of Liberty has several keys melted.
August 11th - Olympia, WA - At some water spout.
The lead singers pants and shirt get a hole burned thru them when the fan of fury mysteriously doesn't rotate properly.
There is speculation of government tampering...
The police just happen to show up after the concert to get some water.
Everyone suspects a police coverup.
Since the lead singer couldn't afford to lose any more pants,
they decide to leave the west coast.
Destroyed -
Lead singers pants
August 14th - Rapid City, ND - 4U
The only show that was impossible to play outside at. The Friends turn their band into this other band called Fondall
which is a gay-awareness style band. In this band the lead drummer and the lead guitarist become lead singers and the
lead singer becomes the lead keyboardist. They are very good.
At the conclusion of the performance a young man exclaims that he could have done that and everyone agrees that he
probably could have.
None the less the friends are
paid 70 dollars.
Destroyed -
The Eighth-Inch-to-Quarter-Inch Plug Adapter of Universal Communication (A Tandy product).
August 16th - Minneapolis, MN - House of Knives.
Played in some guys back yard for about 8 people.
The neighbor calls the police but once again the friends escape municipal citations.
They were done by the time the authorities arrived.
Destroyed -
Another Fan of Fury.
August 18th - Boston, MA. - O'Brians
It was very hot in Boston and the friends were too lazy/apathetic to do anything but sit in the van and sweat for around 16
hours before the performance.
The Smokescreen does what was later described as 'an accident similar to an exploding space shuttle' showering
powder into the keyboard and peoples faces. A fire cracker somehow gets wedged into the keyboards floppy disc drive
just before it is knocked from its stand.
Destroyed -
Several stained keys and the wedging of the disc drive.
August 19th - Providence, RI.
Friends Forever prove that they are not corporate sell-outs when they don't even come close to selling out the venue.
Once again their music was found to be repellant. Many angry people shout and run around confused.
Unable to ascertain who is in the band people attack a librarian who was merely walking out of a nearby library.
The next day Friends Forever head for NYC leaving the people of Providence to their strange lives of anger and confusion.
August 20th - NY, NY - Children's Magical Garden (2 blocks from Tonic).
Hello New York. Played on some street corner. A group of people somehow know about the performance.
Police arrive after it is over. Several keys fall off the midi keyboard.
There was plenty of social justice at this show but was still a pretty
lackluster performance. Friends Forever add another.
Destroyed -
The Keyboard of Alienated youth
August 21th - NYC - Williamsburg(Bronx) on some streetcorner in front of a coffee shop,
Coffee shop in which the friends set up in front of suddenly opens giant glass windows and all their doors
minutes before they play.
They use the opportunity to use the bathroom. Lose several more keys from the midi keyboard. Keyboard falls off its
stand again.
Another of their lesser shows. Sorry New York, maybe next time.
Destroyed -
The Keyboard of Alienated youth
August 24th - Baltimore, MD - Tarantula Hill.
Baltimore seemed like an abandoned place; a dying city. A place where
dreary ghosts make unhappy afterlives. Unfortunately ghosts
rarely buy T-Shirts.
Expecting no crowds the show is moved to a nearby public park. The Baltimore police department is strangely absent
in spite of the hours of loud music/fireworks. I guess they had something better to do.
August 27th - Iowa City, IA - BBQ.
The dark history of middle America is once again evident at this performance.
Played sandwiched between a home for the elderly
and a police station, this show was inevitably cut short. Many drunk
people inexplicably yell "Wooo!" at innapropriate intervals. An unknown man is arrested for unknown reasons.
Friends Forever is given 5 minutes to get out of there or the van would be towed. Party!
August 30th - Denver, Co - Monkey Mania.
Back home where they could use the bathroom freely. Attempted to use all the remaining fireworks but were unsuccessful.
Set cut short when bass drum pedal breaks. Man tells Friends Forever they need to play in Detroit and then they will
be famous. Maybe they will, but not tonight.
Destroyed -
Drum Pedal of Bombast.
August 31st - Limon, Co
Home. It is where you were born...
August 1st marks day one of Friends Forevers often pointless and empty lives that they lead back home.
Digging holes, sitting in basements, going to the bathroom, reading mail, and wearing
windbreakers. Nothing lasts forever. That's a long time.
this is an actual flyer with tour dates on it. please look at it at your convenience.
